What Is Plavix (Clopidogrel Bisulfate)?
Plavix is the brand name for the generic drug clopidogrel bisulfate, an anti- thrombosis medication used to prevent blood clots. Blood clots can develop in blood as a result of certain heart or blood vessel conditions. Plavix is often prescribed following stroke or heart attack.
Plavix has also been indicated in the treatment of unstable angina or peripheral artery disease. The administration of aspirin alongside Plavix may be more effective in preventing another episode of heart attack, but may predispose subject to increase bleeding.
Marketed by Bristol-Myers Squibb and Sanofi, Plavix was initially approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1997.
